Interview Tips
Employ these tips to make the most of your college visits and interviews:
● Get a solid night's sleep the night before your interview.
● Dress appropriately to make a great first impression. (Boys: shirts tucked in! Girls: skirts of modest length!)
● Remember that your interview begins the moment that you arrive on campus.
● Stand up to give a firm handshake while introducing yourself to your interviewer. (He/she knows who you are, but this effort will demonstrate your interest and enthusiasm, as well as your self-confidence.)
● Keep in mind that your body language speaks just as loudly as your words. (For example, the way that you sit gives an impression.)
● Use eye contact.
● Avoid looking around the room, fidgeting with pens, water bottles, hair, etc. Put all distractions away when you sit down.
● Do not get flustered by questions that you perceive as confusing or difficult. Do not be worried if you cannot answer a question. Remember, authenticity is the best policy!
● When you are asked a question, use more than one-word answers.
● The interview is an OPPORTUNITY, not a test. The interviewer is invested in your success.
● Be yourself!
● Finally, you must remember that the Admissions World is small. You should approach every interview with appropriate energy and enthusiasm. Admissions directors talk to each other about their candidates, so every interview counts.
