The present

We watch this short video clip about a young boy who receives a puppy from his mom. The puppy only has three legs, but can run and play around. At the end of the clip you see that the boy is also missing a leg. The puppy helps him to move on, even if this is a temporary fix, and go outside to play catch.

Working independently, I have the students think about the first few minutes of the film (before the mother brought the puppy). What emotions do they think the boy was feeling? Why do you think he was feeling this way? How would you feel?

We then had a conversation about the last few minutes of the film. What do you think he was feeling after the film stopped playing. How would you feel after receiving the present? Pretend the film crew came back and filmed the boy a few weeks later, what do you think would be happening? Why?
